Velidhoo, in Noonu Atoll

Welcome to our section, which is specifically made for one of my own "Heart Children", located in the northern Noonu Atoll and named Velidhoo.

Velidhoo is a local island in Noonu Atoll, located approx. 166 km away from the capital Male. The island measures approximately 1330 meters long and 650 meters in size. You can travel by local ferry speedboat from Male City in about 2.5 hours, and travel by speedboat from Maafaru Airport in 35 minutes. The locals on this island are warm-hearted and friendly with a total population of around 3,000. Visitors have the opportunity to experience real local culture, island life and people's daily livelihoods (fishing and boat building). Among some of the attractions are the Boat Building, Fish Market, The Great Banyan Tree, their local beach and of course the underwater life.

Own experiences with Velidhoo

My name is Nikolaj, I're in charge of Yourtravelideas. I have worked for 2 years at Velidhoo, at a small guesthouse, and fall flat for the island and its lovely inhabitants. It is also from this that I choose to make a "special section" only for the Maldives. Unfortunately, my time at Velidhoo was interrupted by Covid-19, but that should not stop me from sharing this amazing place!

The following video is one of my good friends;).

The first time I became acquainted with Velidhoo was back in 2015, when I myself was traveling for the first time. Here we were going past Velidhoo, and this was where I first fell head over heels for island life, and the lovely calm atmosphere that was just lived in. We were only on the island for 2 weeks, but there was no need for more before I was sure to pass by again.

A couple of years went by and when I finished my education, I had the opportunity to come down and work on my beloved Velidhoo.

I ended up working at a small guesthouse down there for 2 years where I lived, lived, and got close to the local life on the island.

Velidhoo is located in the northern Noonu Atoll, so it is not because they have been overrun by tourists, like the Atolls around Malé. So it is still the very local island life that dominates the island. It has not become quite as touristy (yet).

So if you want to experience the authentic island life, then Velidhoo is an obvious option.

During my 2 years at Velidhoo, I came in contact with a lot of lovely people on the island, right from the island's "Magnum Is" king called Job, the island's diver Rahman, and then Adam, who also had a guesthouse and a cafe / restaurant that belonged to .

During the time at Velidhoo, we always had a good collaboration with Adam, as he was very western-oriented, and always wanted to learn more about us, and he really wanted to learn from him about the local culture.

Adam has since gotten off to a good start in his Guest house, and works super hard and committed to show the whole world how lovely an island Velidhoo is.

Of course, I would also like to show Velidhoo in front of the Danes, and have therefore talked to Adam about being able to find some advantageous prices for those interested.

IslandHost

IslandHost is owned by Adam Ibrahim. Adam is educated in tourism, and has owned IslandBistro, which is the café/restaurant that belongs to IslandHost, for 6-7 years before he opened IslandHost.

Before I write too much more, I'll just show a video from down there.
